DAF Trucks further consolidated their position in the European truck market in 2013.* With a 16.2% market share in the heavy-duty segment (16+ tonnes), DAF achieved a record in the company’s 85-year history. Even in the 6- to 16-segment DAF achieved a record 11.8% market share.
In the heavy-duty truck segment, DAF are the market leader in the Netherlands, the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Lithuania. DAF are the biggest imported brand in Germany.
The total market for heavy-duty commercial vehicles in the EU in 2013 was almost 241,000 units – an increase of approximately 8% on 2012. DAF expect the market for heavy-duty trucks in Europe to reach 200,000 to 230,000 vehicles in 2014.
In the 6- to 16-tonne segment, when DAF featured their LF model, their market share increased by 3% to 57,000 units (55,500 in 2012). DAF’s market share in the 6 to 16-tonne class increased from 11.4% in 2012 to 11.8% in 2013. A key contributor to this growth was the company’s success in the UK, where DAF achieved a market share of 42% in the LF segment.
Outside the EU
DAF have also consolidated their market position outside the EU. In 2013 the manufacturer delivered 9,400 LF, CF and XF vehicles outside the EU – an increase of 13% on 2012. With a 16% market share, DAF are the largest European truck manufacturer for the 16+ tonne segment in Taiwan.
In Russia, DAF are the fastest growing European brand, with 3,900 registrations in 2013. Another important highlight of 2013 was the start of production in Ponta Grossa, Brazil. In October the factory delivered the first locally built XF105.
